Baseball Recap: Highland Comes Up Short

Highland was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They came up short against the St. Pius X Sartans, falling 17-5. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Hornets of the 18-3 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Highland saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jose Tapia, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. That double was Tapia's first of the season. Another was Miguel Leyba, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

Highland's defeat dropped their record down to 3-12-1. As for St. Pius X, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-11 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Highland will square off against Rio Grande at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Hornets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Ravens have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. As for St. Pius X, they will challenge Belen at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
