Softball Game Preview: Elgin Wildcats vs. Weiss Wolves

Elgin has gone a perfect 4-0 against Weiss recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Elgin Wildcats will face off against the Weiss Wolves at 7:00 p.m. Elgin is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games.

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Elgin and Hendrickson, and Elgin kept the tradition alive. Elgin was the clear victors by a 9-3 margin over Hendrickson on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Weiss was able to grind out a solid victory over East View on Tuesday, taking the game 8-4. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wolves.

Jordynn Booe and Aubrey Santos made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Booe struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Santos pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in April of 2024. At the plate, Booe scored two runs while going 1-for-3, while Santos went 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was Santos' first of the season.

In other batting news, Milani Martinez was excellent, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Bel Larsen, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Elgin pushed their record up to 6-9 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Weiss, their record is now 7-5.

Everything went Elgin's way against Weiss in their previous meeting back in March of 2022, as Elgin made off with a 12-0 victory. Does Elgin have another victory up their sleeve, or will Weiss turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
