Football Preview: Naselle Comets vs. Wahkiakum Mules

The Naselle Comets will head out on the road to square off against the Wahkiakum Mules at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Wahkiakum took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Naselle, who comes in off a win.

While Comets fans will have to keep waiting for their squad to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Saturday's season opener. They simply couldn't be stopped on Saturday as they easily beat Darrington 66-30 on the road. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Comets just coasted through the last quarter.

Jack Strange had a dynamite game for Naselle, rushing for 292 yards and four touchdowns on only 13 carries. The dominant performance gave him a new career- in rushing yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Lindstrom, who threw for 131 yards and two touchdowns on only five passes.

Naselle's defense was in the mix too, especially the secondary: they snagged two passes before it was all said and done. The picks came courtesy of Scott Henington and Lindstrom.

Meanwhile, Wahkiakum was beaten by Neah Bay 78-24 on Saturday.

Despite the loss, Wahkiakum had strong showings from Jayden Stoddard, who threw for 217 yards and three touchdowns, and Parker Leitz, who picked up 114 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Stoddard also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, forcing a fumble and making three total tackles (1.0 for loss).

Things could have been worse for Naselle, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 22-8 loss to Wahkiakum when the teams last played back in September of 2017. Can Naselle avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
