Baseball Recap: John Carroll Catholic Gets the Win

John Carroll Catholic posted their closest victory since February 24th on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Calvary Christian Academy Eagles 4-2. This was payback for the Rams, who suffered a 4-0 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Cannon Orton made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because John Carroll Catholic is 4-2 when he allows at most one walk, but 1-6 otherwise. Orton was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February.

In other pitching news, John Carroll Catholic got a great performance from Layton Chandler as he struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off seven hits (and only one walk). Those eight strikeouts gave Chandler a new career-high.

Orton wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Noah Kehres, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI. Tyler Fitzgerald was another, earning one RBI, one run, and one stolen base.

The victory made it two in a row for John Carroll Catholic and bumps their season record up to 5-8. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games. As for Calvary Christian Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. John Carroll Catholic will take on Melbourne Central Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Calvary Christian Academy, they will challenge Killian at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
