Softball Recap: Woodridge Comes Up Short

Woodridge had lost 19 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 4-17 to make it 20. They came up short against the Norton Panthers, falling 12-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-5 last Wednesday.

Woodridge saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Julia Elkins, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.

As for Norton, the victory got them back to even at 7-7-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for they.

On Norton's side, Addison Calo and Chloe Womble did most of the damage at the plate: Calo went 2-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and two RBI, while Womble went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Those two triples gave Calo a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Mairin Mattei, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Coming up, Woodridge will square off against Manchester at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Panthers' pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so the Bulldogs' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Norton, they will challenge Firestone at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Panthers are facing the Falcons at the right time seeing as the Falcons are stuck on a six-game losing streak.
