Softball Recap: Madison Southern Eagles vs. Nicholas County Bluejackets
Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Madison Southern). They were the clear victors by a 16-2 margin over the Nicholas County Bluejackets on Monday. While the Eagles didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Kayley Goss made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.

In other batting news, Lilly Kirk was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Ashlyn Estep was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.
Madison Southern kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Nicholas County only managed five hits.
Madison Southern's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-5. As for Nicholas County, their loss was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-8.
Coincidentally, Madison Southern and Nicholas County will both be playing Harlan County the next time they take the field. The Eagles will head out to face the Black Bears at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, while the Bluejackets will host them at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday.
