Football Recap: Independence Starts Season with Win at Home

Independence took care of business in their home opener on Friday. They came out on top against the Meadowdale Lions by a score of 28-20. The 76ers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Lions, too.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Gabriel Ogbara and Darren White-Tyler. Ogbara rushed for 217 yards while White-Tyler gained 208 total yards. Those 217 rushing yards gave Ogbara a new career-high.

Despite the loss, Meadowdale still got an impressive performance from Jordan Brown, who rushed for 87 yards and one TD on only 12 carries, and also threw for 80 yards and one touchdown.

Coming up, Independence is packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will challenge Beechcroft at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Meadowdale, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Talawanda at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
