Basketball Recap: Saugerties Finds Playoff Glory Versus Ellenville

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Saugerties had no problem doing just that on Monday. They were the clear victor by a 74-51 margin over the Ellenville Blue Devils. Given the Sawyers' advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 245th, while the Blue Devils are ranked 506th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Saugerties got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Liam Boek out in front who dropped a double-double with 19 points and 11 boards. Thanks to that strong game, Boek now owns an excellent 45.6% shooting accuracy. The team also got some help courtesy of Mccoy Rothe, who posted 15 points in addition to six assists and six steals.

Saugerties was working as a unit and finished the game with 22 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Ellenville's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alen Ibric, who put up 20 points and six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Kwaku Boahen, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 17 boards.

Saugerties' win bumped their record up to 13-8. As for Ellenville, their loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-7.

Saugerties didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 55-38 victory against Marlboro Central on the 5th. Ellenville does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
