The Winamac Warriors will venture away from home to take on the Carroll Cougars at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Winamac is coming into the match hot, having won their last three games.
Winamac's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They walked away with a 4-0 victory over Caston.
Corrin Combs was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last 11 contests. Another player making a difference was Makayla Werner, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and two doubles.
Meanwhile, Carroll hadn't done well against Clinton Central recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Cougars put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 11-1 win. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by eight runs or more this season.
Charlotte Kingery made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bree Hoke, who fired off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-3. Olivia Stankard was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Carroll lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Carroll's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-6. As for Winamac, their record is now 16-4.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Winamac hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .345. However, it's not like Carroll struggles in that department as they've averaged .338. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Winamac came up short against Carroll in their previous meeting back in May of 2023, falling 6-2. Can the Warriors avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
