Preview: Southern Choctaw Indians vs. Choctaw County Tigers
Southern Choctaw is 1-9 against Choctaw County since January of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Southern Choctaw Indians will look to defend their home court against the Choctaw County Tigers at 6:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Southern Choctaw has three straight victories, Choctaw County has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Even though Southern Choctaw has not done well against Linden recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Southern Choctaw put the hurt on Linden with a sharp 56-33 victory. Given Southern Choctaw's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 123rd, while Linden is ranked 344th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Marcionna Young, who scored 26 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Southern Choctaw's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Hill, who scored 6 points along with 8 assists and 7 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Choctaw County came up short against Johnson on Tuesday and fell 35-26. Choctaw County has not had much luck with Johnson recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.
Southern Choctaw's victory bumped their season record to 3-1 while Linden's defeat dropped theirs to 0-3.
Southern Choctaw couldn't quite finish off Choctaw County in their previous matchup back in January and fell 49-47. Can Southern Choctaw avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
