The North Kingstown Skippers are taking a road trip to take on the Scituate Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. North Kingstown has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with seven straight defeats, while Scituate will come in with three straight wins.
North Kingstown is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Rhode Island's top teams: La Salle Academy, who was ranked first at the time (North Kingstown was ranked 20th). The Skippers came up short against the Rams on Wednesday, falling 14-1.
North Kingstown saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ella Mezzanotte, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Scituate). They were the clear victors by a 21-1 margin over North Providence on Wednesday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Spartans with their most commanding win of the season.
Isabella Rotondo made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Lily Maggiacomo was incredible, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Victoria Geisser was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Scituate always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .824. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
North Kingstown's loss dropped their record down to 5-10. As for Scituate, their record is now 5-7.
Everything went North Kingstown's way against Scituate when the teams last played back in May of 2023, as North Kingstown made off with a 10-0 victory. Do the Skippers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Spartans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
