Baseball Game Preview: Downers Grove South Mustangs vs. Leyden Eagles

For the second straight game, Downers Grove South will face off against Leyden. The Mustangs will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. Downers Grove South is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games.

On Monday, Downers Grove South needed a bit of extra time to put away Leyden. They walked away with a 5-2 win over the Eagles.

For Leyden's part, they got a good showing from Elias Carrillo, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Carrillo has become a key player for the Eagles: the team is 3-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 6-7 otherwise.

At the plate, Jacob Ganir made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-5 with three stolen bases and one run.

Downers Grove South's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-9. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Leyden, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-8 record this season.
