Softball Recap: Mount St. Mary Academy Thunder vs. St. Mary's Lancers

Mount St. Mary Academy had lost four straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 1-2 to make it five. They lost 22-4 to the St. Mary's Lancers. If the Thunder were looking for revenge after losing 11-1 to the Lancers when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Elizabeth Frisbie was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Jocelyn Wolf, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI.

As for St. Mary's, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 5-3. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On St. Mary's side, Danielle Spiegel was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Those nine strikeouts gave Spiegel a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one double. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.

In other batting news, St. Mary's got a massive performance out of Ella Dovey, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs Dovey has posted since back in May of 2024. Renee Henning also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Mount St. Mary Academy is set to square off against their familiar foe Sacred Heart Academy at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, St. Mary's will challenge rival Mount Mercy Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
