Baseball Recap: Mt. Pleasant Victorious

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Mt. Pleasant ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Tiverton Tigers 6-5. For the Kilties, this counts as revenge for the 7-5 victory the Tigers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2025.

Oliver Ortega spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up eight Ks.

On the hitting side, Mt. Pleasant let Jariel Echevarria and Waner Mateo run wild. Echevarria went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Mateo went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. Mateo has become a key player for Mt. Pleasant: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-3 otherwise.

The win made it two in a row for Mt. Pleasant and bumps their season record up to 5-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Tiverton, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Mt. Pleasant will take on rival Paul Cuffee at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Tiverton is set to face off against their familiar foe North Smithfield at 11:00 p.m. on Thursday.
