Basketball Recap: James Logan Skates Past Kennedy with Ease

James Logan won the last time they faced Kennedy and things went their way on Wednesday too. The James Logan Colts claimed a resounding 56-27 victory over the Kennedy Titans. Given the Colts' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 309th, while the Titans are ranked 622nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

James Logan got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Iwalani Lealao out in front who almost dropped a double-double with 15 points and nine assists. The game was Lealao's fourth in a row with at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Natalia Muniz, who went 6-for-12 on her way to 12 points in addition to seven boards and three steals.

Lealao wasn't the only one working in the assist department: James Logan was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kennedy only posted six assists.

Despite the defeat, Kennedy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Izabella Velazquez posted seven points along with nine rebounds and four steals. The dominant performance gave Velazquez a new career-high in boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Kelsea Espinosa, who had five points and three steals.

The victory was the third in a row for James Logan, bringing their record for this year to 14-9. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.0 points over those games. As for Kennedy, they now have a losing record of 11-12.

James Logan has already played their next contest, a 52-48 win against Mission San Jose on the 14th. As for Kennedy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 57-35 loss against American on the 14th.
