Softball Game Preview: Holmes Huskies vs. Brennan Bears

Holmes hasn't had much luck against Brennan recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Holmes Huskies are taking a road trip to take on the Brennan Bears at 5:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

On Wednesday, Holmes came up short against Harlan and fell 10-6. The Huskies have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Hannah Melendez made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Chloe Martinez was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Brennan fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against O'Connor on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 2-1. The contest marked the Bears' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Bryannah Campos spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up six Ks. That's the fewest earned runs she has allowed since back in May of 2024.

On the hitting side, Brennan saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Farrah Lemus, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Brennan's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 4-5. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to strikeouts: they averaged an imposing 7.5 strikeouts in those games compared to only 3.25 in the others. As for Holmes, they now have a losing record of 5-6.

Holmes came up short against Brennan when the teams last played back in April of 2024, falling 3-0. Can Holmes avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
