Football Game Preview: Mauldin Mavericks vs. Greenwood Eagles

Mauldin hasn't had much luck against Greenwood recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Mavericks will be playing in front of their home fans against the Eagles at 7:30 p.m.

Mauldin fought the good fight in their overtime contest against T.L. Hanna on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 28-21 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Yellow Jackets. While losing is never fun, the Mavericks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 75th, while the Yellow Jackets are ranked 15th).

Mauldin's loss came about despite a quality game from Tamari Shepherd, who picked up 91 receiving yards and one touchdown. Peyton Myers also deserves some recognition as he passed for his first passing yards of the season.

Mauldin didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Devon Wilson. He also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with ten.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Greenwood, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They snuck past Hillcrest with a 24-20 victory on Friday. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Rams recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Mauldin better keep an eye on Tristan Lewis. He was instrumental in Greenwood's win, rushing for 66 yards and a pair of TDs.

Mauldin now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Greenwood, their victory bumped their record up to 4-1.
