Football Recap: East Rutherford Cavaliers vs. Newton-Conover Red Devils

East Rutherford lost to Newton-Conover back in September of 2023, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Friday. The East Rutherford Cavaliers claimed a resounding 62-15 win over the Newton-Conover Red Devils on the road. Given the Cavaliers' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 93rd, while the Red Devils are ranked 234th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Brandon Pinkerton had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 279 yards and six touchdowns while picking up 8.0 yards per carry. His rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his ninth straight game with at least 115 rushing yards dating back to last season. Cj Jackson also helped with two touchdowns in total.

Several Red Devils players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Logan Adair, who threw for 154 yards and a touchdown on only 13 passes, and also punched in a rushing score.

East Rutherford now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Newton-Conover, their defeat was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-3.

East Rutherford will welcome North Lincoln at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. East Rutherford knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 31 point or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully North Lincoln likes a good challenge. As for Newton-Conover, they will have plenty of time to ponder what went wrong as they've got a bye scheduled next week. After, they'll take on West Caldwell at 7:30 p.m. on September 20th. Newton-Conover is facing West Caldwell at the right time seeing as West Caldwell is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
