Basketball Game Preview: Hoggard Vikings vs. New Hanover Wildcats

Hoggard hasn't had much luck against New Hanover recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Hoggard Vikings will challenge the New Hanover Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. Hoggard is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 66.3 points per game this season.

Last Wednesday, Hoggard beat Laney 47-39. The victory continues a trend for the Vikings in their matchups with the Buccaneers: they've now won three in a row.

Hoggard got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Will Seward out in front who went 5-for-7 to rack up 11 points along with eight rebounds and five blocks. Seward is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last 12 games he's played. Lawson Brown was another key player, going 6-for-9 on his way to 14 points and six boards.

Meanwhile, New Hanover waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with 19 straight wins... but they left with 20. They breezed past the Trojans to the tune of 90-45. The Wildcats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 17 games by 22 points or more this season.

New Hanover pushed their record up to 24-2 with the victory, which was their 11th straight at home. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 35.1 points. As for Hoggard, their win bumped their record up to 21-4.

Hoggard suffered a grim 65-40 defeat to New Hanover in their previous meeting last Thursday. Can Hoggard avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
