Softball Game Preview: Piedmont Highlanders vs. Acalanes Dons

Piedmont and Acalanes are an even 3-3 against one another since May of 2015, but likely not for long. The Piedmont Highlanders will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against the Acalanes Dons at 4:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Tuesday, Piedmont beat American 8-3.

Miya Fujimoto made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing Four bases. while getting on base in all six of her plate appearances. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Edie Elmquist, who got on base in five of her six plate appearances with one triple, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Samantha Ronen, who scored a run while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Acalanes waltzed into their match on Monday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They came out on top against the Spartans by a score of 10-7. Acalanes' victory was all the more impressive since the Spartans were averaging only four runs allowed on the season.

Acalanes' win bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Piedmont, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.
