Flagstaff has gone 8-2 against Mohave recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. It'll be a Battle of the Birds when Flagstaff Eagles take on Mohave Thunderbirds at 11:00 a.m. Flagstaff is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.

Flagstaff took a eight-run defeat the last time they faced off against Deer Valley, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Flagstaff sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 win over Deer Valley on Wednesday.

Will Carpenter spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on five hits and racked up eight Ks. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Payne Lowry, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Tobyn Phillips was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Lowry wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Flagstaff kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. Flagstaff is a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Mohave was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-5 heartbreaker at the hands of Westview. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Thunderbirds have suffered since February 28th.

Flagstaff has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. Mohave's loss dropped their record down to 5-9.

Flagstaff was able to grind out a solid win over Mohave when the teams last played back in March of 2024, winning 10-6. Does Flagstaff have another victory up their sleeve, or will Mohave turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
