Basketball Recap: Elgin/Pope John Comes Up Short

Elgin/Pope John was the 57-50 winner over Humphrey-Lindsay when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Elgin/Pope John Wolfpack fell 62-49 to the Humphrey-Lindsay Bulldogs on Thursday. The Wolfpack just can't catch a break and have now endured five defeats in a row.

It was another big night for Owen Kurtenbach, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 11 boards for Humphrey-Lindsay. That makes it five consecutive games in which Kurtenbach has scored at least a third of Humphrey-Lindsay's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Friesen, who posted nine points.

Elgin/Pope John's loss dropped their record down to 9-8. As for Humphrey-Lindsay, the win got them back to even at 9-9.

Elgin/Pope John will face off against Boyd County at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. Elgin/Pope John is facing Boyd County at the right time seeing as Boyd County is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Humphrey-Lindsay, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Twin River at 7:30 p.m. on February 13th.
