Football Recap: Washington County Snaps Seven-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

The third road match was the charm for Washington County, as they earned their first away victory of the season. They came out on top against the Bertie Falcons by a score of 18-6 on Friday. The score was all tied up 6-6 at the break, but the Panthers were the (much) better team in the second half.

The critical scores for Washington County came from Symir Jenkins, Ishawn Fuller, and Brandon Spruill.

Washington County was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 257 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 167 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.

Washington County didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Keitrell Sutton. Washington County received some extra help from Fuller, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.

Washington County's win ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-2. As for Bertie, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Washington County will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Wake Prep Academy at 7:00 p.m. on the 26th. As for Bertie, they will take on Currituck County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Knights will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each game than the last.
