Baseball Recap: Amsterdam Comes Up Short

Amsterdam extended their losing streak to five on Monday, dropping them down to 2-7. They came up short against the South Glens Falls Bulldogs, falling 10-3. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 12, 2023, but that streak is no more.

Amsterdam saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was AJ Lopez, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

As for South Glens Falls, they pushed their record up to 8-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by six runs or more this season.

On South Glens Falls' side, Kyle Abbott made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Abbott has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Michael Plourde was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with five RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Ford, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Amsterdam didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 13-4 victory against Gloversville on the 22nd. As for South Glens Falls, they have also already played their next game, a 3-0 win against Schuylerville on the 22nd.
