Softball Recap: Coronado Comes Up Short

Coronado had lost three straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 12-11 to make it four. They lost 14-5 to the Shadow Ridge Mustangs. The Cougars were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Mustangs earlier this season, when they won 14-5.

Summer Gilliam made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one triple and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Bailey Goldberg, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs.

As for Shadow Ridge, their record is now 11-6. Considering they have won six matches by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

On Shadow Ridge's side, Katelynn Quidato spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, Chloe Covington was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Aleana Aionaaka was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

Looking ahead, Coronado will take on Liberty at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Patriots have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season. As for Shadow Ridge, they will face off against Centennial at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Mustangs' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
