Softball Recap: Granville Comes Up Short

Granville extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 6-10 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Licking Heights Hornets. The Blue Aces were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Hornets earlier this season, when they won 6-5.

As for Licking Heights, they moved to 9-8 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted against Granville since April 2, 2022.

For Licking Heights' part, Natalie Mahoney spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up ten Ks. Mahoney has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Kelsey Carter was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one triple. That's the most hits she has posted over her last nine contests. Ava Von Bargen also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Granville wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 13-2 defeat against Licking Valley on the 28th. As for Licking Heights, they have also already played their next matchup, a 17-0 win against Zanesville on the 28th.
