Baseball Recap: New Haven Makes It Five in a Row at Home

New Haven lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Mott, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Thursday's matchup. The Rockets blew past the Marauders 10-3 on Thursday. Winning may never get old, but the Rockets sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Connor Abuan made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Abuan was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Deven Nagorsen was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of New Haven's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-3 when he doesn't). Brayden Celeste also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

New Haven always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. The last time their OBP was this high was back in May of 2024.

New Haven's victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-3. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Mott, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-6.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. New Haven will welcome Port Huron at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Mott, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Fitzgerald at 4:30 p.m.
