Basketball Recap: Middle Creek picks up seventh straight win on the road

Basketball Recap: Middle Creek Mustangs vs. Holly Springs Golden Hawks

The Middle Creek Mustangs entered their tilt with the Holly Springs Golden Hawks with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Middle Creek enjoyed a cozy 69-51 victory over the Golden Hawks on Friday. Given Middle Creek's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 54th, while the Golden Hawks are ranked 354th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Middle Creek to victory were Alysia Pergerson and Joi Pergerson. Pergerson scored 16 points along with five assists and five steals, while Pergerson scored 30 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Pergerson has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Makiya Denee Mial, who scored six points along with seven rebounds and six steals.

Despite the loss, Holly Springs had strong showings from Amy Lissow, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds, and Kalaesia Lincoln, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds. Lissow has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last nine times she's played. Another player making a difference was Gabrielle Young, who scored four points.

Middle Creek pushed their record up to 17-3 with that victory, which was their seventh straight on the road. As for Holly Springs, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost 11 of their last 13 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-16 record this season.

Middle Creek will head out on the road to take on the Imps at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cary is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. As for Holly Springs, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Gators at 6:00 p.m. Hopefully Green Level focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Friday.
