Baseball Recap: Metuchen Now 6-1 over Last Seven Games

Metuchen lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Piscataway, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Friday's contest. The Bulldogs never let the Chiefs get on the board and left with a 32-0 win on Friday. Considering the Bulldogs have won four matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

James Fenton made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with one home run, six RBI, and four runs.

In other batting news, Matt Jelleme was a standout: he got on base in six of his seven plate appearances with five runs, five RBI, and one double. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (three). Lucas Malamug was another key player, getting on base in five of his six plate appearances with five runs, four RBI, and one double.

Metuchen always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .709. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.

Metuchen is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. As for Piscataway, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-9.

Piscataway has already played their next match (against Piscataway Vo-Tech), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Metuchen will be paying especially close attention to the Chiefs' game: after the Chiefs face off against the Raiders, they'll take on Metuchen again at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
