Basketball Game Preview: Leavitt Hornets vs. Oceanside Mariners

Leavitt has won three straight games at home, while Oceanside has won three straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Thursday. The Leavitt Hornets will welcome the Oceanside Mariners at 6:30 p.m.

Leavitt is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Medomak Valley just ended the team's six-game winning streak on Tuesday. They received a blow as they fell 60-43 to the Panthers.

Meanwhile, Oceanside faced Brunswick in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. Oceanside breezed by Brunswick to the tune of 65-33. The Mariners have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four contests by 22 points or more this season.

Leavitt better keep an eye on Aubrianna Hoose. She was instrumental in Oceanside's win, going 7 for 11 on her way to 20 points in addition to eight assists and four steals. Hoose's evening made it five games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Grace Mackie, who posted 13 points along with five boards and four steals.

Oceanside was working as a unit and finished the game with 22 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Leavitt's loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 6-2. As for Oceanside, their win bumped their record up to an identical 6-2.
