Basketball Recap: Denison's Higher State Rank on Full Display on Tuesday

Denison won the last time they faced Anna and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Denison Yellow Jackets took down the Anna Coyotes 78-62. Given the Yellow Jackets' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 168th, while the Coyotes are ranked 431st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Anna's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lamin Foon, who went 5 of 9 en route to 12 points in addition to eight rebounds and five blocks. Foon has been hot, having posted eight or more boards the last seven times he's played. Karson Jones was another key player, putting up 19 points and five assists.

Denison is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 22-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.0 points per game. As for Anna, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-20.

When Denison and Anna next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Denison will try to stop Walnut Grove's four-game winning streak when the meet at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Similarly, Anna will square off against Lovejoy and their 12-game winning streak at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
