Lake Minneola is 9-1 against Eustis since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Lake Minneola Hawks will take on the Eustis Panthers in a tournament on Friday.
Lake Minneola is headed into the match having just suffered their biggest loss since February 20, 2024 on Wednesday. They lost 16-8 to Montverde Academy. The Hawks have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Lake Minneola got a good showing from RJ Martell, who tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
On the hitting side, Tyler Pierre and Chase Dougherty stepped up to the plate in a big way. Pierre scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Dougherty scored a run while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave Dougherty a new career-high in hits (three).
Meanwhile, Eustis put another one in the bag on Wednesday to keep their perfect season alive. They put the hurt on Seminole with a sharp 9-1 win. Nine seems to be a good number for the Panthers as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Sean Griffin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up six Ks. What's more, he also gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024.
At the plate, Eustis let Couper Gatch and Andrew Walker loose on the outfield. Gatch scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances, while Walker scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Walker also put up a stolen base, which washis first of the season. Ethan Jackson was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.
Lake Minneola's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Eustis, they pushed their record up to 4-0 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.
Lake Minneola was able to grind out a solid victory over Eustis in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, winning 12-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lake Minneola since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
