Recap: Kenwood Knights vs. Houston Mustangs
This season hasn't been kind to the Kenwood Knights, who are still winless after their tenth game. Their2023 ended with a 46-30 defeat against Houston on Thursday. While losing is never fun, Kenwood can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 358th, while Houston is ranked 63rd).
When it comes to explaining why Kenwood lost, one person who can't be blamed is Yazmine Pearson. Despite the final result, she scored 15 points.
Houston's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Anna lee Avery led the charge by scoring 15 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Avery has scored at least 25% of Houston's points. Amani Lipscomb was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with seven steals.
Kenwood's loss dropped their record down to 0-10. As for Houston, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 11-3.
Kenwood is on the road again on Friday and play against Big Sandy at 9:00 a.m. on December 29, 2023. Big Sandy is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. Houston won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Gibson County at 3:30 p.m. on December 29, 2023. Gibson County has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
