Basketball Recap: Buena Park Takes a Loss

Buena Park lost against Santa Ana back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Buena Park Coyotes were beaten by the Santa Ana Saints 65-37. The Coyotes were down 54-21 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Despite the loss, Buena Park saw an underclassman step up: freshman Ernesto Portas posted 14 points and three blocks. Portas has been hot recently, having posted three or more blocks the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Liam Gallego, who put up seven points in addition to seven rebounds and four blocks.

Among those leading the charge was Issac Alvarez, who earned 24 points. Those 24 points gave him a new career-high. Logan Rivera was another key player, putting up 13 points.

Buena Park's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-18. As for Santa Ana, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-15.

Buena Park has already played their next match, an 84-67 loss against Laguna Hills on the 20th. As for Santa Ana, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Valencia at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Valencia knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five games -- so hopefully Santa Ana likes a good challenge.
