Volleyball Recap: Varela Takes Down Belen Jesuit in a Playoff Battle

Varela had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They walked away with a 3-1 victory over the Belen Jesuit Wolverines on Thursday. This was a revenge game for the Vipers: when they faced off against the Wolverines back in March, they had to take a 2-0 loss.

Varela found their leader in sophomore Sebastian Hidalgo, who had 22 digs and four aces.

Varela was lethal from the service line and finished the game with ten aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least eight aces in six consecutive matches.

Varela has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season. As for Belen Jesuit, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-15 record this season.

Varela didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-0 win against Miami Beach on the 6th. As for Belen Jesuit, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 3-1 victory against Pembroke Pines Charter on the 6th.
