Basketball Game Preview: Polytechnic Panthers vs. Providence Pioneers

Polytechnic is 2-8 against Providence since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Polytechnic Panthers will host the Providence Pioneers at 5:30 p.m. Providence took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Polytechnic, who comes in off a win.

Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Polytechnic turned things around against Westridge on Wednesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Tigers 58-17. The Panthers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight games by 25 points or more this season.

Polytechnic got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jessie Yip out in front who went 9 of 12 on her way to 18 points and four steals. Another player making a difference was Mira Mavis, who went 5 for 6 en route to 10 points and seven rebounds.

Meanwhile, Providence was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They had to suffer through a 56-28 loss at the hands of Mayfield. The Pioneers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 29-7.

Polytechnic pushed their record up to 10-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 26.8 points per game. As for Providence, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-11.

Polytechnic suffered a grim 55-34 defeat to Providence in their previous meeting back in January of 2024. Can Polytechnic avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
