Softball Recap: Monday's Win Is Springfield's Seventh in Last Eight Outings

Springfield put their dominant pitcher on display in the team's third consecutive shutout on Monday. They never let the Richwoods Knights get on the board and left with a 5-0 win. That's more bragging rights for the Senators, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Mia Volpert made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two triples, two stolen bases, and two runs. Those two triples gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maya Bennett, who went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Emma Marcum was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one run.

Springfield is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season. As for Richwoods, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-17.

Looking ahead, Springfield will challenge Lincoln at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Richwoods, they will face off against Manual at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
