Basketball Game Preview: Escalon Cougars vs. Sonora Wildcats

Escalon hasn't had much luck against Sonora recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Escalon Cougars challenge the Sonora Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. Escalon will be strutting in after a victory while Sonora will be coming in after a loss.

Escalon took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They blew past Orestimba 65-38. The Cougars pushed the score to 63-32 by the end of the third, a deficit the Warriors cut but never quite recovered from.

Meanwhile, after a string of six wins, Sonora's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They lost 55-31 to Ripon Christian. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Wildcats have suffered since December 28, 2024.

Sonora's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 14-7. As for Escalon, their win bumped their record up to 13-9.

Escalon came up short against Sonora when the teams last played on January 8th, falling 54-50. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Sonora's Jonathan Curran, who went 11 for 15 on his way to 32 points and six boards.
