Basketball Recap: Dreyfoos School of the Arts Jaguars vs. Sports Leadership & Management Giants
The Dreyfoos School of the Arts Jaguars scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They walked away with a 69-56 victory over Sports Leadership & Management. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Dreyfoos School of the Arts was led to victory by Tyson Jimerson and Zidane Guerrier. Jimerson dropped a double-double on 24 points and 11 rebounds, while Guerrier scored 21 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. That makes it three consecutive games in which Jimerson has scored at least a third of Dreyfoos School of the Arts' points. Another player making a difference was James Griffin, who scored five points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Despite the loss, Sports Leadership & Management saw an underclassman step up: Dennis Pierre almost dropped a double-double on 30 points and nine assists. Pierre is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 16 or more in the last 15 games he's played. Mason Plewinski was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Sports Leadership & Management were working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Dreyfoos School of the Arts only racked up eight assists.
Dreyfoos School of the Arts' win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-10. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.5 points per game. As for Sports Leadership & Management, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-12.
Dreyfoos School of the Arts will head out on the road to challenge the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. North Broward Prep presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Jaguars in Florida (the Eagles are ranked 26th, while the Jaguars are ranked 648th). As for Sports Leadership & Management, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the Tigers at 3:30 p.m. Village Academy is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
