Baseball Game Preview: Mazama Vikings vs. Modoc Braves

The Mazama Vikings will square off against the Modoc Braves at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.

Having struggled with five defeats in a row, Mazama turned things around against Bonanza on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Antlers with a sharp 15-5 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Vikings considering their one-run performance the contest before.

Jonny Ladner looked comfortable as he pitched 3.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits.

On the hitting side, Kellan Lee and Mason Snell did most of the damage at the plate: Lee got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs, while Snell got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Snell has become a key player for Mazama: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 0-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jayden Justice, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.

Meanwhile, Modoc waltzed into their game on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They blew past the Bulldogs 12-2. Considering the Braves have won eight matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Modoc's win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Mazama, their win bumped their record up to 3-6.
