Softball Recap: Mansfield Christian Takes a Loss

Mansfield Christian dropped their record down to 4-11 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 17-5 to the St. Paul Flyers. The Flames were not able to make up for their loss to the Flyers from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Lily Mowry and Emma Docherty stepped up to the plate in a big way. Mowry went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Docherty went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI. That double marked the first that Mowry has hit this season.

As for St. Paul, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-8 record this season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 10.2 runs.

On St. Paul's side, Mallorie Sowers and Isabella Guerra were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Sowers pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Guerra struck out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. At bat, Sowers went 4-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and one double, while Guerra went 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one double. That's the most hits Sowers has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Ryleigh Mansfield-Bush was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella Kalizewski, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mansfield Christian will square off against Genoa Christian Academy at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for St. Paul, they will face off against Huron at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
