Recap: Christ Covenant Spartan vs. Rocky Mount Academy Eagles
It was a good run, but the Christ Covenant Spartan unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell 46-37 to Rocky Mount Academy. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Christ Covenant of the 53-40 loss they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2023.
Rocky Mount Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Taylor Carmichael, who scored 21 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Carmichael has scored at least a third of Rocky Mount Academy's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Berkeley Miller, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds.
Christ Covenant's loss ended a nine-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-2. As for Rocky Mount Academy, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-2 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Christ Covenant will take on Gramercy Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Gramercy Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 last Tuesday. As for Rocky Mount Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Fayetteville Academy at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. Fayetteville Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 385th, while Rocky Mount Academy is ranked 102nd).
