Basketball Game Preview: Genoa-Kingston Cogs vs. Plano Reapers

Genoa-Kingston is 3-0 against Plano since February of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Genoa-Kingston Cogs will host the Plano Reapers at 7:00 p.m. Genoa-Kingston has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.

Last Monday, Genoa-Kingston strolled past Indian Creek with points to spare, taking the game 66-48. Given the Cogs' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 258th, while the Timberwolves are ranked 569th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Plano unfortunately witnessed the end of their 14-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell 46-39 to Johnsburg.

Genoa-Kingston will have to contain Josie Larson as she made an impact in Plano's last game. She dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Sanai Young, who posted eight points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Plano smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 40 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Genoa-Kingston's victory bumped their record up to 16-11. As for Plano, their loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 22-4.

Genoa-Kingston came out on top in a nail-biter against Plano in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, sneaking past 44-42. Does Genoa-Kingston have another victory up their sleeve, or will Plano turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
