Basketball Recap: Wapello Takes a Loss

Wapello was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their tenth straight loss dating back to last season. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 54-51 heartbreaker at the hands of the Columbus Wildcats. The Indians were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January.

Wapello's loss dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Columbus, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 3-4 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wapello will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Winfield-Mt. Union at 7:30 p.m. on January 3, 2025. Columbus also won't see the court for a while: their next contest is against Pekin at 7:30 p.m. on January 2, 2025. The timing is sure in Pekin's favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while Columbus has been banged up by six consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.
