Basketball Recap: Hough Huskies vs. Watauga Pioneers
It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Hough can now relate to. They took a 66-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Watauga Pioneers on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Huskies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 70th, while the Pioneers are ranked 14th).
It was another big night for Kate Sears, who dropped a double-double with 33 points and 14 boards for Watauga. That makes it five consecutive games in which Sears has scored at least a third of Watauga's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Julie Matheson, who went 5-for-10 en route to 12 points and five rebounds.
Hough's defeat dropped their record down to 20-8. As for Watauga, they pushed their record up to 21-5 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home.
Hough does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Watauga, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Northern Guilford at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
