Woodland Regional has gone 8-2 against Wolcott recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Hawks will face off against the Eagles at 3:45 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Woodland Regional comes in on 23 and Wolcott on four.
Wolcott's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Friday: Woodland Regional hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. The Hawks never let Oxford get on the board and left with a 13-0 victory on Thursday. Fans of the Hawks have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.
Ella VanAlstyne made a splash while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 15 over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in ten consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Woodland Regional got a massive performance out of Ayla DeCrescenzo, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI, two doubles, and one run. That's the most RBI DeCrescenzo has posted since back in May of 2024. Caitlyn Braun also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.
Woodland Regional kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in 16 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, Wolcott made easy work of Ansonia on Wednesday and carried off a 12-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won seven contests by 12 runs or more so far this season.
Avery Malenfant tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched.
At the plate, Jaelyn Belval was a standout: she got on base in two of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Lauryn Sinclair, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.
Woodland Regional's victory was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-0. The team's perfect season has a lot to do with their hitting performance: the team's won by an average of 10.7 runs thus far. As for Wolcott, their record is now 9-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Woodland Regional has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 11.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Wolcott struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Woodland Regional's way against Wolcott in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Woodland Regional made off with a 14-2 win. Will the Hawks repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
