Stone Memorial hadn't done well against Upperman recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Stone Memorial narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Upperman 2-1. This was payback for the Panthers, who suffered a 5-4 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Kenzie Jackson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Stone Memorial's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Ashely Whittenburg, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Stone Memorial's victory bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Upperman, their loss was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-10.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Stone Memorial will take on York Institute at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Upperman, they will square off against Cumberland County at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
