Baseball Recap: Granada Extends Winning Streak to Five

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Granada). They blew past the Amador Valley Dons 10-0 on Friday. The victory was familiar territory for the Matadors, who have now won five contests in a row.

Alex Piscotty looked comfortable as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up a single earned run any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Tommy Brown and Jack Badger did most of the damage at the plate: Brown scored two runs while going 2-for-4, while Badger scored a run while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave Brown a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Joey Marasco, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Granada kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matches.

Granada's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Amador Valley, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-5.

Granada and Amador Valley could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Matadors (ranked 52nd) will meet Corona del Sol (ranked first) on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Amador Valley will square off against Alhambra at 7:00 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (299 vs. 146).
