Football Recap: Cooper Cougars vs. Azle Hornets
Cooper couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell 41-34 to the Azle Hornets on Friday. The Cougars lost against the Hornets in their previous head to head back in October of 2021, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 52-23 score last time.
Loss or not, Cooper got some senior leadership from Austin Cummins and Zavian Alexander. Cummins threw for 200 yards and two touchdowns, while Alexander. picked up 97 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Hagen Hughes went supernova for Azle, rushing for 187 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 10.4 yards per carry. Hughes' longest rush was for an incredible 77 yards.
Cooper will venture away from home to take on Abilene on Friday. Cooper is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road dating back to last season. As for Azle, they will be playing at home against Weatherford at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
