Baseball Recap: Sparta Academy Comes Up Short

Sparta Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their 12th straight defeat. They fell 6-2 to the Escambia Academy Cougars. That's two games in a row now that the Warriors have lost by exactly four runs.

Sparta Academy got a good showing from JT Coker, who struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. That's the fewest earned runs Coker has allowed since back in February.

At the plate, Murfee Williams was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.

Sparta Academy's loss dropped their record down to 2-15. As for Escambia Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-5 record this season.

While Sparta Academy had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
